THE Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) had shutdown depots across the country as its nationwide strike continues.

The union had embarked upon warning strike on Wednesday over unresolved labour issues with multinationals operating in the oil and gas industry.

In a check by Nigerian Tribune on Wednesday to verify the efficacy of the warning strike, it was observed that loading at NNPC depots in Apapa and Ejigbo were suspended as tanker drivers were seen in group discussing.

One of the tanker drivers who identified himself as Muhammed Tijani said he thought the strike would not go on.

“I came all the way from Ondo to load here today, but was surprised that it warning strike was effective,” he said.

NUPENG had given the Federal Government a two week-notice of a three-day nation-wide warning strike from the second week of January 2017.
