. Surprise packets Crown reach semi finals

Nigeria National League side, Crown FC have reached the semi finals of this year’s men’s Federation Cup competition after shoving aside NPFL side Wikki Tourists on Wednesday.

However, the biggest news came from the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu where Cup holders Akwa United were booted out by Nasarawa United after the lottery of penalty shootout had to be deployed as the game ended scoreless.

In Lokoja, the boys from Oyo State stood their ground against the elite league side at the Confluence Stadium. The match ended 0-0, and Crown FC won 4-3 on penalties.

In Abeokuta, Warri Wolves abandoned their quarter -final tie with FC IfeanyiUbah with six minutes left on the clock, protesting against the referee’s decision to disallow their goal. FC IfeanyiUbah led 1-0 before the discontinuation.

Head of Federation Cup, Emmanuel Adesanya toldthenff.com: “We are awaiting the match commissioner’s report.”

The big match, between Rivers United and Enyimba FC in Ibadan, was discontinued after heavy downpour rended the pitch unplayable. Result was 0-0 at the time. The game will continue on Thursday at 7.30am.
