The Delta State Police command on Thursday said it rescued 16 persons, killed an armed robber and recoverd an Ak-47 rifle with live ammunition in separate locations in the state.

The acting Police public relations officer DSP Bright Edafe, in a statement yesterday, said the police received a distress call on Wednesday at about 19:37hrs, that workers of one Zion Onofighe, a hotelier, were being attacked by gun men at his site in Ogor, Ughelli.

Patrol teams dispatched to the scene, engaged the hoodlums in a shootout and rescued the hotelier and sixteen workers unhurt.

A Toyota highlander jeep was also recovered from the scene and that manhunt for an the fleeing suspects was ongoing.

The police said a suspected armed robber was killed in Asaba, the state capital on same Wednesday 3/3/2021, during a gun duel.
