Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, Wednesday said he will not resign despite the calls, following recurring ijail breaks across the country in the past one year.

Aregbesola, whose ministry oversees the Nigeria Correctional Service across the country, spoke to newsmen at the end of the weekly virtual Federal Executive Council (FEC) which held at the State House, Abuja, declared that the calls in some quarters for his resignation was not necessary.

“As to whether it calls for my resignation, I still don’t see any need for that because it’s not for lack of preparedness that the attacks were successful,” Aregbesola said.

The Minister, however, assured that government was making efforts to step up security around the correctional centres especially following the jailbreaks in Owerri, Oyo, Kabba and Jos in the last few months.
