The Executive Director of the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA), Professor Alex Dodoo, has said he supports the production of marijuana for export to the international market, since the herbs are used for medical purposes abroad.
Sharing his perspectives on the use of marijuana at the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament at its sitting in Accra. Prof. Dodoo said the exportation of marijuana could generate additional revenue for Ghana.
He made the statement while answering questions on the operations of the GSA as captured in the 2015 Auditor General’s Report.
He however said the security agencies should ensure vigilance to avoid the diversion and abuse of the plant in the country.
In Nigeria, Omoyele Sowore, a Presidential aspirant has declared that he will ensure that Nigeria begins the exportation of marijuana to shore up government revenue if elected in 2019.

Sowore who was answering questions on the role of trado-medicine at the Forum on Governance and Political Agenda for Health, organised by Centre for Social Justice (CSJ) Nigeria on the 15th August 2018 in Abuja, said it doesn’t make sense burning Marijuana worth billions of naira annually, when there is demand for the product in the international market. His view is however generating mixed reactions from Nigerians.
