Algeria Dumped Out Of AFCON 2021 After Heavy Loss To CIV

Reigning champions Algeria have crashed out of this year’s AFCON after losing 3-1 to Côte d’Ivoire in their final Group E game on Thursday.

Algeria have become the first title holder to lose two Africa Cup of Nations group stage games since Cameroon in 1990.

The two-time AFCON winners needed a win against Côte d’Ivoire to advance into the next round, after picking just one point in their first two games.

But it was the Ivorians who emerged victors thanks to goals from Franck Kessie (22 minutes), Ibrahim Sangare (39 minutes) and Nicolas Pepe (54 minutes).
