Plumptre Eager To Face South Africa Again


Ashleigh Plumptre has said she hopes the Super Falcons will face Banyana Banyana of South Africa again at the ongoing Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

It was not the best of debuts for Plumptre at the WAFCON as the Falcons lost 2-1 to the South Africans.


It is a repeat of the 2018 edition in Ghana where the South Africans pipped the Falcons 1-0 in the group opener.

However, the Falcons avenged the loss as they won on penalties in the final against Banyana Banyana.

Reflecting on the defeat Plumtre, who was one of the bright spot for the Falcons, admitted the South Africans deserved the three points.

But she remains confident the defending champions can bounce back from the setback.

“I think they played some really good football and the combination play was really good. Especially in their midfield, they were able to pull the strings quite a lot,” the 24-year-old told BBC Sport Africa.
