FG to partner leather industry on economic diversification – Onu

Minister of Science and technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu has explained that the Federal Government is ready to collaborate with the professional bodies in carrying out research on leather products in order to diversify and enhance Nigeria’s economy.
Dr. Onu said leather is one of the products that would assist Nigeria achieve her diversification agenda.
He spoke at an annual conference of the Society of Leather Technologists and Chemists of Nigeria, which took place at the Nigeria Institute of Leather Science Technology, NILEST, Zaria.
According to a statement made available to our correspondent in our Abuja, a director in the ministry, Dr. Nnenna Okoronkwo represented the Minister.
According to the Minister, partnership in the leather industry would not only boost the economy but also would revitalise the sector and create jobs for Nigeria’s teeming youths.
In his speech, the Director General, NILEST, Dr. Isuwa Kari Adamu, urged leather scientists to always update their skills in order to meet up with the demands of modern technology.
