As the immunisation programme for this month rolls off the ground today, no fewer than 120,000 children are being targeted for immunisation against the wild polio virus in Dutse Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
The Information Officer of Dutse Council, Malam Ya’u Garba, confirmed in Dutse Friday that the council had received enough doses of Oral Polio Vaccines, OPVs, to cover the targeted number of children.
He explained that the children would be immunised against polio and other childhood-killer diseases during the five-day exercise.
“Some 630 ad-hoc staff had been trained to conduct the exercise.”
Head of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene in the council, Alhaji Babangida Musa, had also urged traditional leaders in the area to mobilise their subjects to participate in the exercise,” Garba said.
The polio immunisation for the month of May would be flagged off in all the 27 local government areas of the state today, May 14.
