Bizarre: Two sisters kidnap mum, demand N2.5m ransom

Enugu State Police Command has arrested two sisters who allegedly kidnapped their mother and demanded N2.5million ransom as pre-condition for her release.
Parading the suspects, who allegedly stage-managed the kidnap of their mother, one Mrs Hannah Achime, the police gave their names as Onyinyechi Achime and Akunna Achime.
According to the newly appointed Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ojukwu, “the suspects were apprehended by police operatives on a different date in connection with the purported kidnapping of Mrs. Hannah Achime.
“One Monday Egbe, aged 30 years, was arrested and he confessed that two of the victim’s daughters, Onyinyechi Achime and Akunna Achime, invited him to the business to enable them collect money from their elder brother, one Mr. Eric Achime based in Lagos.
“Ransom of N2.5 million naira was demanded, while N500, 000.00 was agreed to be paid.” Ojukwu hinted and stated further that the case was being investigated and the suspects would soon be charged to court.
Meanwhile, the police have made some arrest in connection with the recent Fulani herdsmen attack and the killing of dozens of residents of Nimbo community in Uzo Uwani council area of Enugu State.
Following the arrests, the police paraded scores of suspects including an 80-year-old man, being accused of gun-running.
Some of the items recovered from the gang included one cut to size double barrel gun, six locally made double barrel short guns, 10 locally made single barrel short guns, two single barrel long guns and four cartridges.
Though he declined further comments on the arrest, the Commissioner said that a high-powered investigative team from the force headquarters was in the best position to provide such details at the appropriate time.
He assured that the police would do everything within its power to ensure that perpetrators of the barbaric act are brought to justice no matter how long it takes.
