People’s Democratic Party, PDP, has alleged that despite the hardship and economic meltdown currently rocking the nation, Hanan Aisha Buhari, 16-year-old daughter of President Muhammadu Buhari, reportedly flew first class on British Airways Flight 083 to London from Abuja yesterday.
PDP disclosed this via its Nigeria Twitter account, @PdpNigeria, yesterday.
According to the tweet, “Hanan (Aisha) Buhari-16yr-old daughter of our president, flew first class on BA Flight 083 to London from Abuja today.
“Her seat number was 2k. She is a secondary school student.
“So much about the people’s president. #BuhariAndCorruption.”
It would be recalled that the federal government, citing a bid to reduce the amount being spent on overheard expenditure, banned ministers and other top officials of government from flying first class while embarking on official trips.
A statement from the Minister of Finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun, signed by Mr Festus Akanbi, directed that all top officials of government such as ministers, permanent secretaries, chairmen of federal government committees, as well as chairmen and chief executives of parastatals and agencies are to travel on business class.
In the past, some government officials who should have been on business class usually travelled on first class while many others travelled business class instead of economy class.
Akanbi in the statement said the new directive had been captured in a circular on review of overhead expenses released by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
He added that the development was one of the recommendations made by the Efficiency Unit which was set up by the Minister of Finance last year, aimed at reducing overhead expenses.
