Fashola Listed Key Achievements in Road Construction in 2 Years

The Works Sector of the Ministry by May 2016 had a list of planned activities considered to be of immense importance to Nigerians. This was in accordance with the prioritized projects initiated to run between 2016 and 2019; and a considerable achievement was made in the period under consideration given the follow-up on monitoring of work done to obtain value for money spent.

The key achievements in the Highways sector in the 2^nd year of the current administration are as follows:

5. Kilometres of roads constructed: 366km
6. Kilometres of roads rehabilitated:             430km

• Total Kilometres of road restored to good condition: 796Km

1. Number of Bridges Maintained:    19
2. Total Linear metres of Bridges maintained:             2,434m
3. Number of Bridges Constructed:                                  24

• Total Linear metres of Bridges constructed:              3,488m
• Number of people employed:             17,749

1. Linear metres of Culverts constructed:             29,686m
2. Linear metres of concrete-lined drains constructed: 260,461m
3. Kilometers of road marked:             1,221km

 

6. The underlisted are among several roads funded and on-going at various levels of completion (selected two roads in each geo-political zone);
7. Construction of Loko-Oweto Bridge over River Benue in Nasarawa and Benue States at 62.20% completion,
8. Rehabilitation of Ilorin-Jebba- Mokwa-Birnin-Gwari-Kaduna Road Section 1, at 58.46% completion,

• Dualization of Oyo-Ogbomosho-Ilorin Oyo-Ogbomosho-Ilorin, Section II (Oyo-Ogbomosho) 46% completion,

91. Rehabilitation of Gombe-Numan-Yola road, phase 1, 91.24% completion,
92. Dualization of Kano-Maiduguri road section iv, (Potiskum-Damaturu) 58.51% completion,
93. Rehabilitation of Sokoto-Tambuwal-Jega road-Kotangora/makera road in sokoto/Kebbi/Niger States, 29.25% completion,

• Dualization of Kano-Katsina Road phase 1, 16.30% completion,
• Rehabilitation and Reconstruction of Enugu-Port-Harcourt dual carriage way Section 1, Lokpanta-Umuahia Tower, Abia State 29.25% completion,

14. Rehabilitation of Enugu-Port Harcourt Road Section 1, Umuahia-Aba Township Rail/Road bridge crossing, 14.37% completion,
15. Rehabilitation of Enugu – Onitsha dual carriageway, the Ministry is executing the project in four sections. Which are at 94.65%, 64.91%, 47.83% and 10.43% respectively,
16. Rehabilitation of Aleshi-Ugep Road, Iyamoyun-UgepSectionin Cross River State, 9.34% completion,

• Auchi Poly-Ekperi-Uzea-Ohe with a spur to Fugar-Afuda-Usugbenun road Section 1 and a pedestrian bridge at Auchi poly gate, 57.66% completion,
• Rehabilitation, Reconstruction and Expansion of Lagos-Ibadan dual carriage way, Section 1, Lagos-Sagamu, 35.98% and
• Rehabilitation, Reconstruction and Expansion of Lagos-Ibadan dual carriage way, Section 1, 38.13% completion are among the projects prioritized; and are at various stages of completion across the six geo-political zones amongst others.

9. The Ministry recently awarded the dualization of Odukpani – Itu – Ikot Ekpene Road in Cross River 9.7 Km/ Akwa Ibom State with a spur to Ididep 12.2 Km

• The Ministry has obtained approval for the augmentation for the Construction of Kaduna Eastern Bye pass

 

7. In addition to this, data collection was carried out on about 7,000km of the Federal road network under the road asset management system programme being funded by the World Bank under the Federal Roads Development Programme (FRDP). The information is to help Management take informed decisions on the planning, budgeting and management of the federal road network based on facts rather than subjectivity.
8. Some of the Projects executed under the different interventions in the Works Sector from 2016 to date through FERMA, include Patching of Potholes, Pavement Strengthening, Repairs of failed Sections and General Maintenance Works along the following roads;

• Jos – Gimi Road, Plateau State;
• Abuja – Kaduna Road (Zuba – Tafa Section), FCT;
• Umuahia – Bende – Ohafia Road, Abia State;
• Ngurore – Mayobelwa Road, Adamawa State;
• Ete – Abak, AkwaIbom State;
• Nnewi – Ekwulobia – Umunze – Ibinta Road, Anambra State;
• Jalingo – MutumBiyu – Wukari Road, Taraba State;
• Bauchi – Gombe Road, Bauchi State;
• Mbiama – Yenagoa Road, Bayelsa State;
• Makurdi – Nasarawa State Border Road, Benue State;
• Calabar – Oban – Ekang Road, Cross River State;
• Amukpe – Eku – Abraka – Umutu – Agbo (Edo State Border), Delta State;
• Afikpo – Okigwe Road, Ebonyi State;
• Benin – Auchi – Okene Road, Edo State;
• Ado – Igede – Itawure – Osun State Border Road, Ekiti State;
• Nsukka – Adani – Anambra State Border Road, Enugu State;
• Gombe – Dukku – Darazo Road, Gombe State;
• Ihiala – Umuduru Road interchange at EzeudoAmaokpa and Zimuzo Roads, Imo State;

• 3^rd Mainland Bridge (Oworo Toll Gate), Lagos State;
• Lafia – Makurdi Road, Nasarawa State;
• Kontagora – Tegina Road, Niger State;
• Abeokuta – Sango Ota Dual Carriageway, Ogun State;
• Ore – Okitipupa Road, Ondo State;
• Ibadan – Ife Dual Carriageway, Osun State;
• Ogbomosho – Dogo – Igbetti Road, Oyo State;
• Ahoada – Okoku – Okwuzi Road, Rivers State;
• Kajiji – Jabo – Zamfara State Border, Sokoto State;
• Damaturu – Dapchi – Bayamari Road, Yobe State;
• Gusau – TalataMarafa – Sokoto State Border Road,
• Zamfara State.

Construction and Rehabilitation Works ongoing on the following Roads:

• Saminaka – Doguwa, Kano State;
• Doguwa – Tiga, Kano State;
• Daura Township Roads, Katsina State;
• ElentereApipontoro Road, Osun State and
• Iseyin – Okeho, Oyo State.

 

9. Accordingly, there were also provision of Road Furniture at the various roads constructed or rehabilitated; these comprise:

• Installation/Rehabilitation of Street Lights on Ilorin – Ibadan Expressway Geri Alimi) Spur, Ilorin, Kwara State.
• Rehabilitation of 120 Poles Solar Street Lights on Katsina-Ala
• Rehabilitation of Street Lights on Makurdi Bridge at Makurdi, Benue State.
• Rehabilitation of Street Lights on Ogbomosho –Ilorin road, Spure Geri Alimi by (Eyienkorin) Ilorin.
• Rehabilitation of 120 Poles Solar Street Lights on Jebba Bridge, Jebba Niger State.
• Provision of Street Lights at Giri interchange along Abuja – Lokoja Expressway FCT Abuja (Phase II)
• Provision of Street Lights at Ogbomosho Interchange along Ibadan – Ogbomosho – Ilorin Expressway, (Phase II) Ogbomosho.
• Provision of Street Lights at Benin – Sapele Interchange along Benin – Sapele Road, Benin (Phase II)
• Provision of Street Lights at Kakao, Old Toll Gate along Abuja – Kaduna Road (Phase II)
• The upgrading of firefighting equipment, early warning signs and directional signs as well as deployment of surveillance cameras at the Headquarters.

 

10. To enhance productivity, the Works Sector embarked on training and capacity building, to enhance Skills acquisition, production of spare parts and training of students on industrial attachment the Department has completed the under listed projects

• Completion of the Construction and equipping of the Mechanical Workshops at Kuje
• Installation a modern furnace, modern spectrometer machine for testing of alloys and other machinery at Central Workshop, Ijora, Lagos.

 

11. SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

DEVELOPMENT OF TRAINING SCHOOLS: To provide a good ambient for learning and to enhance the manpower development of the MDAs Drivers and technical staff, the Department has completed the under listed projects.

• Completion of the Construction of the 32 Nos. Bedroom Hostel Block at the Elect./Mech. Engineering Training School in Kuje.
• Completion of the Construction of the 32 Nos. Bedroom Hostel Block at the Elect./Mech. Engineering Training School in Abeokuta.

 

12. Provision of Environmental and Social Infrastructure

A total number of 31 social infrastructure were provided along the Akure-Ilesha road project corridor which comprises of (21) hand pumps, (4) motorized boreholes, (1) market stall of (10) shops, (1) Primary School, (1) furnishing of Primary Health Center and (1) Clinic.

 

13. Provision of Environmental And Social Infrastructure

A total number of 14 social infrastructure were provided along the Mokwa-Bida road project corridor which comprises of (6) motorized boreholes, (4) market stalls (2) Block of class rooms, (1) Clinic.
