Motorist on Federal highways are lamenting the activities of a Federal government created FERCSARA on the highway. The Federal Roads Committee on Surveillance and Action against Roads Abuse (FERCSARA), which was created by the Federal Government is an offshoot of FERMA a Federal Agency saddle with road maintenance.
Report shows FERCSARA officers operate on Federal roads requesting motorist to produce a certain Road Abuse Compliance Certificate issued by the Committee.
A motorist who claimed to have been arrested by the FERCSARA officers questioned the basis for the Road Abuse Compliance Certificate issued by FERCSARA despite obtaining Road worthiness and other certificate and licenses from VIO and other agencies.
The motorist who said he was asked to pay the sum of N25,000 for the certificate, claimed to have made a request for the TSA to effect the payment since they are a Federal body, a request they decline and insisted he effect the payment by cash. He complied since they have impound his vehicle and ended up paying N10,000 after bargaining.
He wondered the criteria used by FERCSARA in measuring Road abuse despite the bad state of Federal roads across the country and the inability of its parent agency FERMA in fixing them.
The agency is also fond of issuing different receipt at different time, they operate unhindered on the road.
