Tomorrow’s JUNE 12 celebration is iconic. One, it is the 25th anniversary of the epoch making event that witnessed the fairest presidential election in Nigeria which was hunted down by a segment of the Nigerian Political elites and annulled by the military junta of President Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida (IBB). Two, President Muhammadu Buhari, current Nigeria’s President and Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces declared June 12 as the authentic ‘Democracy Day’ and it must be honored so, annually. Three, President Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola, the president who never ruled was awarded the highest title in the land as Grand Commander of The Federal Republic (GCFR) twenty years after his death while famous human right lawyer, late Chief Gani Fawehinmi (SAN) got the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON) title.
Since the June 6, 2018 honor, by President Buhari, there have wild jubilation among the progressives in Nigeria’s political sector.
However, in this no-hold barred encounter, Alhaji Abuld-Jamiu Abiodun Abiola, 5th son of the late Symbol of Democracy, MKO Abiola and 2nd son of the late martyr of democracy, Hajiya Kudirat Abiola told us how former President Olusegun Obasanjo, his father’s kinsman who ruled Nigeria for 8 years (1999–2007) and who is seen as the immediate beneficiary of MKO Abiola’s death refused to honor his father despite his futile call to it.
