Two killed, seven injured as bribe-seeking policemen cause accident

Two motorcycle riders were reported dead and at least seven others injured after an accident on Adeboye Road, Odorasanyin, in the Ijebu Igbo area of Ogun State on Tuesday.

PUNCH Metro gathered that a team of policemen had mounted a checkpoint on the road and were extorting money from motorists when a vehicle was flagged down by the officers.

The car driver attempted to escape from the checkpoint when he reportedly rammed into two oncoming motorcycle riders.

Our correspondent learnt that the two riders were confirmed dead on the spot, while five occupants of the car and two students of De Potter College of Health Technology, Ijebu Igbo, who were on the motorcycles, were critically injured.

A source said the injured were rushed to St. Joseph Catholic Hospital, Ijebu Igbo, before some of them were referred to the Babcock University Teaching Hospital, Ilisan-Remo.
