Two groups, the Southern Nigeria Forum, and the Association of Middle Belt Ethnic Nationalities, have called on the indigenes of the southern and Middle Belt regions of the country to abstain from eating beef for 21 days in honour of the victims of attacks by herdsmen.
The proposed 21-day beef boycott is to commence on March 1, 2018.
The groups made the call in a communiqué they issued after a meeting in Enugu.
Rev Okechukwu Obioha and Rev James Pam signed the communiqué on behalf of SNF and ASOMBEN, respectively.
“In order to honour the victims of the herdsmen activities across the country, southerners and the people of the Middle Belt are hereby urged to abstain from eating cow meat for 21 days in the first instance, beginning from 1st March, 2018,” the communiqué read.
