The Nigerian Prisons Service has listed conditions that the United Kingdom must meet before it would be allowed to build structures at the Kirikiri Prison in Lagos State.
The NPS Spokesman, Francis Enobore, told SUNDAY PUNCH on Saturday that the UK must first discuss the specific terms and conditions of the project with the Federal Government.
He, however, said the UK had yet to formally notify the Federal Government and the NPS about the plan.
Media reporst on Friday had indicated that Britain would build a new wing at the Kirikiri Prison in Lagos so that it could transfer Nigerian prisoners in the UK there.
The new 112-bed wing, which will cost £700,000 ($973,000), will be compliant with the United Nations standards.
But Enobore said the UK’s plan would involve an inter-government consultation which would then be communicated to the Controller-General of the NPS.
