Abuja police justify arrest of car buyers

The Federal Capital Territory Command of the Nigeria Police Force has explained why it arrested and detained four persons in relation to the purchase of a stolen car in Abuja.

According to the police, the suspects – Hope Nathan, his uncle, Gabriel Samuel and his friends, Gabriel Joshua and Emmanuel Joseph –  were arrested at the point of sale of the car.

The police were reacting to a civil society organisation, Advocate for Peoples Rights and Justice, which petitioned the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, Sadiq Bello, over the detention of the suspects.

The group had stated that Nathan, an undergraduate, was arrested for allegedly buying a stolen Toyota Rav4 SUV from one Ali for N800,000, adding  that the car seller was detained for just 12 days and granted bail by the police, while Nathan, his uncle and friends were kept in custody for refusing to…
