Akwa United FC of Uyo on Sunday at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, qualified for round of 16 in the CAF Confederation Cup by beating Al Ittihad of Libya.

Aiteo Cup winners prevailed 4-3 on aggregate over the Tripoli-based team, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.

The host who lost by a lone goal to Al Ittihad of Libya at the Alteeb Almharea Stadium, Sfax, Tunisia defeated the visitors by a lone goal through Aniekeme Asuquo in the 46th minute.

The winner in the game was settled through penalties after the match ended 1-1 on aggregate.

Ojo Olorunleke, in goal for Akwa United, stopped three penalties out of five taken by the visitors.

The home team converted three penalties from four attempts against the visitors.

Al Ittihad had a man sent off in the second half after its players manhandled match officials while protesting a goal disallowed by the centre referee.
