Artisan tortured by Rivers’ SARS plans to sue police

Lucky Joseph, who was allegedly tortured by operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Rivers State Police Command, has asked for legal assistance, saying he wanted to claim damages for the injuries inflicted on him by the operatives.

Joseph was shown in a video, which has already gone viral, being beaten after he was stripped naked by the SARS operatives.

The victim alleged that he was also beaten with a machete by the operatives, who later extorted N30,000 from some residents of Odums Street, close to the University of Port Harcourt.

He said it was after the money was paid that he was freed.

Joseph, who said he had considered dragging the police to court over the matter, noted that as an artisan, he did not have the financial strength to do so.
