Community decries arrest of octogenarian, others over land tussle with Olofa – Punch Newspapers

Members of Ijehu community in Offa Local Government Area of Kwara State have decried the detention of an 85-year-old man, Alhaji Murtala Eso, and about four other community members in a police station for more than three days.

It was alleged that their detention was at the instance of the Olofa of Offa, Oba Mufutau Gbadamosi.

Eso’s son, Rasheed, spoke when scores of members of the community protested; carrying placards and chanting different songs, at the Kwara State House of Assembly in Ilorin, the state capital, over what he termed intimidation, assault and grabbing of their land allegedly by Oba Gbadamosi.

He said, “My father was beaten up. They locked him up for about three days. They also apprehended four of our people, while the Olofa ordered his driver to hit the fifth person on his motorcycle and the boy is now in the hospital.”
