The teenager whose anguished reaction to a 20-year prison sentence for a South Daytona, Florida, (United States) attempted carjacking went viral June, 2017 was sentenced Monday to 11 years.

Ky’Andrea Cook, 19, was sentenced to the 11 years plus 20 years probation to run concurrent, so the probation will start to run while she is in prison. In the attempted carjacking, a person was shot. After that police said Cook and her boyfriend carjacked another person, although no one was shot in the second case.

According to the Daytona Beach News-Journal, Cook while in the dock said she wanted to put this part of her life behind her.

“I apologise for my actions to the victim’s family and victims. I am a changed person I did learn my lesson from all this,” she said in a soft voice.

Judge Matthew Foxman commended Cook’s apparent contrition.
