It’s part of life’s routines to put one in a tight corner. In the public realm, no corner could be tighter than the one that Vice President Yemi Osinbajo finds himself. Even as he remains loyal to the president, he is increasingly taking the heat for seeing no evil and hearing no evil.

He stoked the fire when he publicly defended President Muhammadu Buhari on the widespread view that his policies are ethnocentric. To many, that would be the equivalent of the US first lady Melania Trump declaring that her husband is the epitome of virtue.

Edmund Burke, the 18th century Irish political philosopher, wrote that, “All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.”The prevailing sentiment among Buhari’s critics is that Osinbajo, the good man, is too comfortable with the sins of the Buhari administration. And that view is becoming ever more pointed.
