Senate probes OAU sex-for-mark scandal – Punch Newspapers

The Senate has begun an investigation of the case of sexual harassment at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, involving a postgraduate student, Miss Monica Osagie, and a lecturer at the Accounting Department, Prof. Richard Akindele.

The investigation was based on a motion moved at the plenary on Wednesday by Senator Abiodun Olujimi (PDP, Ekiti-South), titled, ‘The Growing Trend of Sexual Harassment in the Higher Institutions of Learning: The Case of Monica Osagie.’

The lawmakers resolved to mandate the Committees on Tertiary Institutions and TETFUND and Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters “to carry out a full-scale investigation into the case of Monica Osagie and the OAU lecturer in order to ensure that there is transparency and accountability, and that satisfactory justice is done to the victim involved and our laws are further strengthened for…
