Due to reports of an “armed intruder” near the American University’s campus on Wednesday, the school has been on a lockdown.
The university, based in Washington D.C., sent an alert to those on campus urging them to lock doors if inside or to leave campus if outside, reports Newsweek.
“Reports of armed intruder near campus. Lock doors & stay away from windows-If outside, leave campus immediately- Police responding. More info to follow,” American University Police tweeted.

Further tweets said, “Lockdown continues. Investigation is focused on Main Campus, East Campus, and 3201 New Mexico. Shuttle ops are suspended. Continue to shelter in place.
