Secure your radioactive sources, NNRA charges oil firms – Punch Newspapers

 The Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority has charged oil companies operating in the country to secure and license their respective radioactive sources across the nation.

The NNRA stated that the charge became necessary as a result of the increasing importation and usage of radioactive materials by oil and gas companies in Nigeria.

The Director-General, NNRA, Prof Lawrence Dim, who disclosed this at a stakeholders’ meeting that focused on the role of the agency in economic development and national security in Abuja, explained that it was the duty of the authority to ensure that radioactive sources in Nigeria were secured.

He said, “The oil and gas sector, which is the mainstay of the Nigerian economy, is the largest importer and user of radioactive sources in Nigeria. The NNRA, the only government agency that regulates these materials, plays a key role…
