Two feared dead in Taraba boat accident – Punch Newspapers

Two people have been feared dead, while 10 others were rescued alive when a speedboat conveying passengers across the River Benue capsized.

A resident, Mr Joseph Lesku, told journalists that the speedboat was crossing the Karim-Lau trench of the River Benue with 12 people on board when the incident happened.

He noted that local divers rescued 10 persons, including the rider.

He said, “The boat was coming from the Karim Lamido side of the river and heading towards Lau, Taraba State, when the incident happened.

“Local divers were able to rescue 10 persons out of the 12. Unfortunately, two persons are still missing and we are searching for their bodies.

“Usually at this time of the year, the tide is high and strong, so you cannot expect them to still be alive. We are making efforts to at least recover their bodies.”
