Following allegations of misconduct and abuse of office the legislative chamber of the Abuja Municipal Area Council AMAC moved to impeach the speaker Hon Daniel Michael as the symbol of authority the Mace was stolen from the house.
In a motion moved by the majority leader Hon Yusuf Tahir Kadir passed vote of no confidence on the speaker for gross misconduct and called for his impeachment.
Receiving the motion, the deputy speaker Haruna Saidu presiding over the house asked the clerk to serve speaker the vote of no confidence notice moved against.
Hon Saidu explained that the speaker has been given notice and grace period to respond to the petition on 30 May meanwhile he has to stand down, adding that the impeachment depends on his response.
“If what they prove goes contrary to what he(Speaker) says then the leaders will take their position and I will only by the majority in the house,” he said
