The menace of pirates in the entertainment sector, has been a worrisome trend that has refused to ebb. In this report, SAMUEL ABULUDE writes on the scourge of piracy and efforts by government agencies to tackle the cankerworm

Iyana Ipaja, is a major suburb in Lagos State where the biggest local government area, Alimosho LGA, is located. The sprawling town, which leads to different communities, is 75 per cent residential and has been a commercial hub on account of its strategic location. The Abeokuta-expressway also passes through the route from Oshodi and for commuters; a lot of patience is needed where most Lagos motorists don’t have one.

Different kinds of commercial activities, both regulated and unregulated, hold sway at Iyana-Ipaja bus stop and one of these is the open sale of movies and music on CDs and DVDs, most of it pirated. The men that deal in these, video vendors like street hawkers, make quick money from dozens of movies, mostly Yoruba-themed movies….
