NLC Mobilises Members For Strike — Leadership Newspaper

The Nigeria Labour Congress has put its members on alert to begin preparation to embark on a strike action, should the federal government fail to meet its 14-day ultimatum issued last Wednesday.

Speaking at the end of its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting, NLC president, Ayuba Wabba said organised labour is very concerned with the manner in which the federal government adjourned the meeting of the committee negotiating the new minimum wage.

He said organised labour would commence a nationwide industrial action alongside civil society organisations in the country  on the 26th, should the federal government fail to meet its demand for the tripartite committee to reconvene and complete its assignment on the new minimum wage against which the action is a must.

He said,  “NEC noted that this is against the principle of collective bargaining as provided in ILO conventions 98 and 131on minimum wage setting process, which Nigeria had domesticated.”
