The European Union, EU, has commended Nigeria for its efforts at combating climate change. The EU Head of Delegation to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Kertil Karlsen made this disclosure, yesterday, at the opening of the EU Climate Change Diplomatic Week at the International Conference Centre, Abuja.
According to Karsen, “In the sense of trying to combat climate change, the European Union wants to commend Nigeria for taking ambitious challenges and goals.
“Nigeria is in a vulnerable situation due to the conflicts already mentioned, population growth and ecosystem.”
On what the European Union is doing to combat climate change, Karlsen said, “We are trying to take on our shoulders the responsibility of climate change. However, Europe is only a part of the world, 10 per cent of the world population. And, of course, it is important to remind ourselves that all countries, no matter the background, contribute to the best of their abilities.”
