Group Seeks Akpabio’s Prosecution By EFCC — Leadership Newspaper

A group, Civil Society Groups for Accountability and Probity has urged the federal government to initiate actions that would culminate in the prosecution of former governor of Akwa Ibom State, Senator Godswill Akpabio

Last week, President Muhammadu Buhari told Arise Television that he never directed the Economic and Financial Crimes (EFCC) and other anti-corruption agencies not to prosecute Akpabio and other corrupt persons because they defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Consequently, the group through its secretary-general, Jonathan Ogwuche, has charged the EFCC to do the needful by prosecuting who was being probed for alleged over N100 billion fraud before he defected to the governing APC from the opposition PDP.

Ogwuche said that the prosecution of the lawmaker would further demonstrate the commitment of the Buhari administration to the fight against corruption and strengthening of public institutions and offices for better performance.
