EFCC Launches Massive Hunt For Illicit Funds Across Africa — Leadership Newspaper

Jolted by a new trend involving the movement of illicit funds to African countries instead of Europe, United States and Arab countries, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has launched a massive hunt for stolen monies in Economic Communities of West African States (ECOWAS).

The commission is also targeting choice properties in protected areas in Ghana, just as it is targeting oil thieves and smugglers to prevent illicit funds for voters’ inducement.

An EFCC source who spoke to LEADERSHIP noted that money laundering activities by some unscrupulous persons have been of great concern to the commission.

“The Commission has been targeting safe havens all over the world through collaboration with law enforcement agencies in those countries. The Commission is making tremendous progress in recoveries of funds and properties from such territories and within Nigeria,” the source who did not want his name in print stated.
