Suit Seeking To Stop CJN’s Trial Stalled — Leadership Newspaper

The hearing in the  two separate suits seeking to stop the trial of  the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen at the Code of Tribunal, CCT,  could not go on yesterday at a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja.

The Federal Government had filed a 6 count criminal charge against the CJN over alleged non declaration of assets.

The arraignment of the number one judicial officer was billed to take place last Monday but it could not go on due to lack of personal service of the summons on the CJN.

Chairman of the tribunal, Danladi Umar, had at the last adjourned date ordered the registry to ensure a personal service on the CJN and consequently adjourned till January 22.

However,  on the same day, the CJN was to be arraigned, two groups, the Incorporated ‎Trustees of the Centre for Justice and Peace Initiative, and the Incorporated Trustees of International Association of Students approached the court asking it to stop the trial.

The court then made an interim order…
