Minister Cautions Women Against Open Defecation — Leadership Newspaper

The minister of Water Resources, Engr Suleiman Adamu, has warned against the growing spate of open defecation in the country, saying women and girls involved in the indecent act could be easily exposed to violence such as rape.

Adamu said the act can also expose them to various diseases, lack of dignity and inconvenience due to non – availability of sanitation facilities.

The minister made the disclosure yesterday at the occasion of the National Stakeholders Retreat on Elimination of Open Defecation in Nigeria, held in Abuja.

Adamu warned that women, particularly girls are exposed to dangerous activities of hoodlums when they have to go out at night to defecate in the open.

In his keynote address, Adamu hinted that  Nigeria has become second to India and first in Africa to practising open defecation.
