Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno state on Tuesday inaugurated an 8-man panel of inquiry to investigate allegations of sexual abuse against warders at the Maximum Security Prison, Maiduguri.

Inaugurating the committee in Maiduguri, Shettima said it was necessitated following media report on allegations of child prostitution, sodomy and forced abortion at the prison.

He said that the committee was mandated to investigate and provide detail report on the allegations.

Shettima said: “I am compelled to inaugurate the committee; I read with total disbelief and dismay by the report of alleged incidences of child prostitution, sodomy and forced abortions in the Maiduguri Maximum Security Prison.

“It is not only sad but worrisome, unacceptable and condemnable. As a responsible and responsive government, it behooves on us to treat the allegations with seriousness.
