It is part of the functions of the House of Representatives to oversight the activities of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of the executive arm of government. It is from this perspective that Nigerians welcome the decision of the law making body to set up an Ad Hoc Committee of the House to carry out an investigation into the activities of the National Pension Commission (PenCom) from April 2017 to date following allegations of violation of the Act establishing it. Ostensibly, the probe is designed to ensure that there is accountability and transparency in the commission as in other agencies of government.

This procedure is sequel to a motion brought to the floor of the House which made reference to the pension asset under the regulatory supervision of this agency, which is in excess of N8.63 trillion.
