Governor of Bayelsa State, Hon. Seriake Dickson, has urged State Governors of the Nine States of the Niger Delta region to invest in mass education of their indigenes, describing mass education as the effective solution to the age long issues of deprivation and oppression of the Ijaws and indeed the Niger Delta people.
Governor Dickson said that the Ijaw people and the region, whose environment produces the resources that have sustained the economy of the country, had been deprived and shut out of the oil economy.
A statement by the Special Adviser Media Relations, Mr. Fidelis Soriwei, quoted the Governor as having made the comment while speaking at the 25th Coronation Anniversary Celebration òf the Paramount Ruler òf Seimbiri Kingdom, King Charles Ayemi-Botu, in Okpokunou, Delta State on Saturday.
The Governor said that the Niger Delta people had been reduced to the level of seeking only surveillance contracts in spite of their status as the producers of oil.
