DPR Recommend Fire Fighting Training For Tanker Drivers. — Leadership Newspaper

In an effort to reduce tanker fire accidents and number of victims, the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), has appealed to the leadership of the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) to train and provide awareness to their members on how to prevent and overcome tanker fire incidents.

The Comptroller, Gombe Field Office, Alhaji Abdullahi Abawa, gave the recommendation on Tuesday in Gombe, while reviewing the April 13 and 17 separate tanker accidents that happened along Gombe bye pass which led to the death of many and several people wounded.

Abawa who cites the failure of both the state and federal government agencies quick intervention during the rescue operation said the rescue was also hampered due to lack of fire fighting equipments and chemicals.

He said training the drivers on basic techniques in fire fighting and safety will not only help in reducing damages but it will go a long way in saving lives.
