Group Laments Gagging Of Media Practitioners — Leadership Newspaper

As Nigeria joins the rest of the world to celebrate press freedom day, the national leader of The Democratic, Hon.(Comrade) Kehinde Ojoawo has lamented gagging of the media practitioners.

Ojoawo in a statement on Tuesday noted that it had become a norm that journalists and other media practitioners were denied necessary freedom to practice their profession.

He said with the advent of freedom of information act as the power to protect the media practitioners they were still being threatened.

The group called on government at all levels to respect right to freedom of the press which was an essential fundamental human right obtainable in a democratic environment.

“Nigerian democratic government should stay away from gagging the press, the antidemocratic propensity characteristics and reminiscent of dark days of repressive military rule in Nigeria.
