My year as a member of the National Youth Service Corp is almost over, and it makes me feel uneven levels of sadness and joy. I will miss the friends I have made, because I may not see them as often once we are done with this. I will not miss the officials who are rude and unnecessarily difficult, by default settings. I certainly will not miss the clearance days where I valiantly battled and threw elbows for space on the lines.
I also feel a sense of prideful obligation, to heckle the Corp members who are passing out at a later time than I am. But that is neither here nor there.
In any case, the conclusion of this program means that I must answer the eternal question that has plagued all young people, since the genesis of a structured society.
