Lawyers Write PMB, Say Petition Against Nomination For High Court Judges Mischievous

Legal practitioners under the aegis of Lawyers in Defence of Democracy have urged President Muhammadu Buhari, to disregard a petition written by a group, Open Bar Initiative and grant approval to the recommended list forwarded by the National Judicial Council for appointment of judges of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory.

In a letter addressed to President Buhari and signed by the group’s national coordinator, Barr. Ohazuruike Tochukwu and publicity secretary, I. A. Bello, the legal practitioners described the petition against the nomination as mischievous as it holds no merit to call for rejection.

The petitioners, according to the legal practitioners hinged their petition on a wrongful interpretation of the law and on speculation and discrimination contrary to the clear provisions of Section 42 (2) of the 1999 Constitution as amended.
