World Environment Day: Oxfam Offers Recommendations For Improved Habitat

While celebrating the World Environment Day today, June 5, Oxfam, an international non governmental organisation (NGO), has stated that this day is commemorated to spur more action and increase awareness on protecting the environment.

According to a press statement made available to LEADERSHIP and signed by Mr Constant Tchona, the country director, Oxfam in Nigeria, he said that although the country is currently facing a health and security crisis simultaneously, it is important to draw attention to the environment because it is an issue that cannot wait. The international theme this year IS, ‘Time for Nature’, and for Nigeria, the focus is on ‘Action for the Environment’.

“Nigeria is plagued with various environmental challenges including: Climatic change, oil pollution, drought and desertification, flooding, erosion, water pollution and solid waste that is not bio-degradable.
