CBN warns the general public of methods cyber-criminals are using to defraud citizens during the Coronavirus pandemic

The Central Bank of Nigeria has warned Nigerians of the methods used by cyber-criminals to defraud innocent citizens amid the Coronavirus pandemic

 

In a statement released by the Director, Corporate Communications, Isaac Okorafor, CBN advised Nigerians to be alert as “cyber-criminals are taking advantage of the current COVID-19 pandemic to defraud citizens, steal sensitive information, or gain unauthorized access to computers or mobile devices using various techniques.”

 

The statement adds that, “This trend is not peculiar to Nigeria as there has been a rise in COVID-19-related cybercriminal activities all over the world.”

 

To ensure that Nigerian bank customers are protected, the statement provided information on the methods used by the cyber-criminals.

 

The statement continues: “Our priority is to ensure that Nigerian banking customers are aware of the ongoing trend to prevent them from falling victim to such cybercrimes.
