Tracy Chapman Files Copyright Infringement Lawsuit Against Nicki Minaj

American singer-songwriter, Tracy Chapman, 54, has sued American rapper, Nicki Minaj, for copyright infringement.

According to the lawsuit, Chapman alleged that the 35-year-old Young Money Entertainment rapper ‘stole her song’ ‘Baby Can I Hold You’ to make her track ‘Sorry’.

Nicki’s allegedly used ‘half of the lyrics and vocal melody’ for the Nas-featured record with the hope to include it on her recent album ‘Queen’.

Minaj claimed she “had no clue” the song contained a sample and once she found out, sent out various tweets aimed at the singer. “Tracy Chapman, can you please hit me,” she tweeted in August. She also asked her fans in a poll if she should delay the release of Queen to wait for Chapman’s response.

Nicki also reportedly made ‘multiple requests to license’ Chapman’s song in June and all were denied, according to the gossip site.
