A Chinese man named Xiaohui has been detained by the police for selling his 10-day old daughter to another couple far away for £4,500 after he discovered his second child was also a baby girl and wanted a son instead.

He was later caught and reported to the police by his own mother after she was said to have found out that her new granddaughter had gone missing.
Both the purchasing couple and the child’s father were detained by police, according to the statement and the baby has since been transported back to Yiwu and is currently under the care of her mother and grandmother.
Under Chinese law, trafficking and selling women and children is punishable by five to 10 years in prison, but life sentences or death penalties can also be issued.
