Gateway FC sacks Awakan, appoints Abimbola


The Management of Ogun State owned soccer outfit, Gateway United have relieved Olabode Awakan of his appointment as the Chief Coach of the Club with immediate effect.
In a statement signed by the Media Officer of the club, Rotimi Oduniyi, Coach Awakan was sacked because of the club’s poor performance in the first stanza of the ongoing 2014/2015 Nigeria National League (NNL) season.
In a letter of his disengagement signed by the club’s General Manager, Prince Adetunji Onatolu, the Management thanked him for his services and wishes him success in his future endeavours.
Meanwhile, former Golden Eaglets and Flying Eagles Assistant Coach, Samuel Abimbola has been appointed as the new Chief Coach of Gateway United.
A member of the Coaching Crew of the 2009 class of the Golden Eaglets of Nigeria at the FIFA Under 17 World Cup, Nigeria 2009 as well as an Assistant Coach to the FIFA Under 20 World Cup in Colombia in 2011, Coach Abimbola is making his second stint at the Gateway having coached the club between 2010 ad 2011.
