PROBLEMS of the Peoples
Democratic Party, PDP, in
Niger state has escalated, as
faction loyal to the former
state Chairman of the
party, Alhaji Abdulrahman
Mahmud Enagi held a
parallel Special Congress to
fill positions in the Exco in
the state.
Addressing the press at
the venue of the ‘Niger State
2016 Special Congress’, the
former chairman threatened
to further drag the Barrister
Tanko Beji executive to court.
Enagi described the last
state congress of the party,
where Tanko Beji emerged
state chairman as marred by
irregularities, impunity and
imposition of candidates.
He said such a congress
would not be acceptable by
the concerned PDP members
in the state.
He was surprised by
the attitude of some few
individuals who tried to
make the same mistake the
PDP made that led to the
total failure of the party in
the last general elections
in Niger state and Nigeria,
insisting that such would not
be allowed to repeat itself.
The factional leader
expressed worry over the
hijacking of the whole process
by an individual to the
detriment of the entire party
stakeholders in the state,
accusing former governor
Abdulkadir Abdullahi Kure
of single handedly sidelining
everybody by installing only
his candidates during the
congress.
Enagi said 900 delegates
were accredited at the last
congress, but one of the
candidates scored 1,700 votes,
noting that was enough to
disqualify the candidate.
He further said that their
special Congress was a
consensus candidature and
hence for affirmation of
the candidates according
to the party zoning, who
will lead the party with
fairness, freedom of
impunity, not imposition and
strictly adherence to party
guidelines.
Also, the former Secretary
to State Government, SSG,
Hon. Idris Ndako Kpaki,
a staunch member of the
group, said that the party
has learnt its lessons from the
last general election, calling
for corrections by allowing
power back to the people
slogan of the party, adding
that key prominent members
lost in the congress due to
impunity.
