Former Chairman, Association of Local Government of Nigeria, ALGON, in Plateau State and immediate past Chairman of Barkin Ladi Local Government Council, Emmanuel Loman, said the greatest mistake Governor Simon Lalong has made in his one year in office is the dissolution of the 17 elected council chairmen.
Lalong had in July last year dissolved council chairmen in the state and replaced them with management committee chairmen.
Loman, who was reacting to a statement credited to Governor Lalong at a democracy day parley with journalists that his administration discovered massive fraud and corruption carried out by the sacked chairmen which prompted him to dissolve them, denied any wrong doing while they were in office.
According to Loman, “The governor being a trained lawyer with a promise to uphold the rule of law after admitting in so many fora that he will not dissolve elected council chairman went ahead to do so despite a court injunction stopping him. We did not commit any fraud in office and I am challenging him to make it public. ‘’
He pointed out that one of the reasons for their dissolution was because they refused to receive the governor at the airport when he went for a foreign trip which is not true.
“The All Progressives Congress, APC, was clamouring for the dissolution of council chairmen so that they can be replaced by their loyal members and that is what the governor did. For the governor to have said that the reason for the dissolution was because of massive fraud, looting and corruption is very unfortunate. There was nothing like massive looting and corruption neither was there any indictment of council chairmen by the immediate past governor.
