Chief of Army Staff, COAS, Lt. Gen Tukur Yusuf Buratai has urged officers of the Nigerian Army to reciprocate the Federal Government’s gesture by paying serious attention towards defending the integrity of Nigeria.
General Buratai stated this in Bauchi yesterday while declaring open the 2016 Combat Arms Training, CAT, Week at the Nigerian Armour School, Obienu Barracks where he reminded the officers that, while the Federal Government is doing everything possible to meet the needs of the military, there is need for the officers to reciprocate by playing its role professionally.
The COAS said the CAT week is in line with his vision of enhancing professionalism in the military through seminars, management retreats and training exercises, for responsiveness to constitutional roles, saying, Nigerian Military has saved a lot by embarking of thorough maintenance of its existing operational equipments.
“Acquisition of modern weapons and equipments is very expensive, the Nigerian Army had therefore decided in its wisdom to refurbish and re-modify existing equipments to meet the realities of time, this is what informs the tasking of the Special Vehicles Plants, SVP, based in Bauchi to undertake some daunting repair projects. Some of the vehicles sent here have been certified serviceable for operational purposes and released to the end users, “he said.
The army chief noted that despite the advancement in weapons system and proliferation of various types of equipments, in conventional warfare, the capability of the manoeuver of arms is still the determinant factor, hence the need for the officers to have necessary qualities for full spectrum of military operations aimed at protecting the entire Nigeria.
Speaking earlier, the commandant, School Of Armour, Bauchi, Maj-Gen I. M Alkali said that current challenges in all parts of the world including Nigeria calls for dynamism in military operations and ensuring combat readiness at all times.
